Adilabad: The Tribal Welfare Department has launched the distribution of ‘Mahua Laddus’ twice weekly under the ‘Girijana Poshana Mitra’ programme to improve the health of students living in hostels. This comes in response to rising cases of illness and anaemia among hostel students. Officials from ITDA, Utnoor are addressing the health concerns of students.

In light of recent incidents of students falling sick and experiencing food poisoning in government hostels, the state government has pledged to hold responsible officials accountable. Clear directives have been issued to ensure that any future health issues or food-related incidents in government hostels are promptly addressed.

Assistant Tribal Welfare Officers (ATWO) and hostel wardens have intensified their monitoring of students’ health and have taken steps to improve the quality of food provided in tribal welfare hostels. Special attention is being given to students who have reported being unwell, ensuring they receive immediate medical treatment and that their parents are informed without delay. Additionally, hostel wardens have been instructed to distribute Vitamin C and Iron tablets to support the students’ health.

However, ITDA, Utnoor officials are not distributing Mahua Laddus during lunch on Tuesdays and Fridays in the former Adilabad district. To maintain high standards of food quality, ITDA Utnoor project officer Khushboo Gupta has ordered wardens to conduct daily checks on the quality of items supplied by the Girijan Cooperative Corporation (GCC). Moreover, GCC staff are required to perform weekly quality inspections of the materials provided to hostels.

The Tribal Welfare Department and the Integrated Tribal Development Office (ITDA), Utnoor have taken serious note of the food poisoning incidents and student illnesses in Tribal Welfare Residential Schools. Additional instructions have been given to hostel wardens to uphold hygiene in kitchens and hostels and to complete the construction of unfinished hostel buildings, kitchens, and compound walls.
