Lara Trump announced Saturday that she is pulling her name out of consideration for the Senate seat being vacated by Florida’s Marco Rubio (R), who – assuming he is confirmed – will become Donald Trump’s secretary of state.

She posted her announcement to X:

The tweet continues:

I could not have been more honored to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime and I’m truly humbled by the unbelievable support shown to me by the people of our country, and here in the great state of Florida. I have read so many of your kind messages and I cannot thank you enough.

I do have a big announcement that I’m excited to share in January, so, stay tuned.

I remain incredibly passionate about public service and look forward to serving our country again sometime in the future. In the meantime, I wish Governor DeSantis the best of luck with this appointment.

Mrs. Trump, wife of the president-elect’s second-oldest son, Eric, is coming off what is largely considered a successful run as co-chair of the Republican National Committee. She stepped down earlier in December, saying, “My work here is done.”

Could a Trump Fill Marco Rubio’s Senate Seat?

There had been much speculation about whether Gov. Ron DeSantis would appoint her, an outcome that Donald Trump downplayed recently because he didn’t necessarily think DeSantis would make that choice, but the point is moot now. It’s not clear what Lara’s next move will be, but as she said in her statement, she’s got news coming in the new year:

I do have a big announcement that I’m excited to share in January, so, stay tuned.

RedState will bring you that news when it comes out.
