The yellow weather warning will be in place across all of then county including Oxford, Bicester and Banbury from 12pm on Saturday, January 4 until 11.59pm on Sunday, January 5.

The heavy snow and freezing rain forecast is likely to cause travel delays on roads, train and flight cancellations, risk of injury as well as power outages and disruptions to other services (including mobile phone coverage), according to the Met Office.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: “Heavy snow, and some freezing rain in places, may cause some disruption over the weekend.

“There is a small chance that power cuts will occur and other services, such as mobile phone coverage, may be affected.

“There is a slight chance that some rural communities could become cut off and a small chance of injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.

“There is a chance of travel delays on roads with some stranded vehicles and passengers, along with delayed or cancelled rail and air travel.”

Light snow will start in Oxfordshire at around 7pm on Saturday with an 80 per cent chance of precipitation and will continue throughout the night, turning to heavy snow from 8pm onwards.

During this period temperatures will not rise above 3°C but conditions will get warmer by midday on Sunday with snow stopping late on Saturday night.
